Grimm (Season 2, Episode 8) “The Other Side”

In this episode, Nick and Hank investigate a murdered high school student who was killed because of their involvement in an academic decathlon. Meanwhile,Monroegets a visitor at the spice shop and Renard must deal with his obsession.  We see Renard approaching Julliette in the shower like in Pyscho. It turned out that the high school student killer’s mother was a geneticist who had tinkered with her son’s DNA in-utero, adding genes of the Lowen (a super-aggressive Wesen) to give him an edge and also a killer split personality. It was kind of strange that the boy ends up going to prison instead of a mental institute. The ending of this episode, leaves us wondering if Nick really is such a nice guy.

Hitchcock (2012)

Per the synopsis on Fandango; “Director Sacha Gervasi adapts Stephen Rebello’s book Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho to explore the relationship between the legendary British director (Anthony Hopkins) and his wife Alma Reville (Helen Mirren), who played a crucial behind-the-scenes role in the making of her husband’s terrifying 1960 classic Psycho. Scarlett Johansson co-stars as Janet Leigh and James D’Arcy portrays Anthony Perkins.

This movie was entertaining from  many angles.  It was interesting to see behind the curtain of how the movie Psycho was made and of Hitchcock’s love of his wife.Hopkinsreally pulled off the look and mannerism of the Hitchcock we remember. This is good movie to see with your wife of a date.

Dead Alive (1992)

Per Ed Sutton;  “In 1957, a zoologist traps a rare Sumatran rat-monkey on Skull Island and brings it back to New Zealand with the locals hot on his trail. Later, a young man falls in love and takes the young woman to the zoo. His overbearing and disapproving mother follows them and gets bitten by the rat-monkey. The monkey’s bite turns her into a zombie, and her doting son has to keep her and the others she’s bitten tranquilized in the basement while trying to preserve his love life.”

In this early, Peter Jackson horror comedy,  we have one of the bloodiest, funniest, movies since the Evil Dead. In particular, the scene with the lawn mower was especially gross and bloody and all the scenes with the zombie  baby were hilarious. This is a must see for every zombie fan!

Silver Linings Playbook (2012)

In this comedy drama, a man (Bradley Cooper) is ordered to live with his mother after being treated for depression in this comedy from David O. Russell. Jennifer Lawrence plays the love interest, with Robert De Niro and Chris Tucker filling out the rest of the starring cast. This combination of all star actors made for an entertaining, emotional movie experience. This movie brought dysfunction and mental illness into the home and made it relatable and even a little funny.  All cast member acted very well and made you feel engaged with their lives and goals.  In particular, Jennifer Lawrence, coming off the movie Hunger Games, acted superbly and was amazingly beautiful during the dance sequences.  The film takes place inPhiladelphiaand has a lot of football references for the men in the audience. This is must see movie with possible award winning performances that we will see later in the year.

Person of Interest (Season 2, Episode 5) “Triggerman”

Per CBS.com; “The Machine leads Reese and Finch to their new POI: an enforcer for the Irish mob named Riley Cavanaugh. Initially, Reese suspects Riley to be the perpetrator when the boss, George Massey, orders him to kill Annie Warren, the widow of a former mobster. However, when Riley kills George’s son to protect Annie, it’s revealed that Riley and Annie are in love, and our heroes now have two people to protect from a vengeful mob boss. Carter runs interference with the cops at Reese’s request, keeping them off of Riley’s trail just long enough for him to figure out his plan. George then puts out a hefty bounty on the lovers, making them the target of every thug in the city, and Finch is forced to go to Elias (ep. 106, 119) for help. Elias calls most of the would-be bounty hunters off, save for one–a man named Ochoa, who tracks them down and takes Annie. Reese squares off with Riley, then convinces the mobster to accept his help if he wants to save Annie. They trackOchoa to one of the properties George uses for wet work, then engage in a massive shootout with a large number of mobsters. In the fight, Riley tells Reese to get Annie to safety, then he kills George, only to later be killed by Ochoa himself. After putting Annie on a train out west, Reese tracks down Ochoa and exacts revenge, removing one more killer from the streets…”  This was another good episode worth seeing.

Skyfall (2012)

Per the summary on IMBD, “Bond’s mission is to keep a computer drive that has a list of British agents from being used against them. He chases the man who has it and they have a brawl on top of a train. Eve, an agent sent to assist Bond has them in her cross hairs but hesitates to take the shot because she might hit Bond but M orders her to take it. She does, and hits Bond who falls into the river and is believed to be dead. A few months later, the British government is upset with MI6 for losing the list; specifically with M. She is told that she’ll be allowed to retire but she refuses to leave till the matter is resolved. So she returns to HQ to work on it but as she arrives, there’s an explosion. In the meantime, Bond, who is not dead, has been laying low. When he learns of what happened, he returns. And M tasks him with finding the one who has the information. He eventually learns that the man who has it, is someone from M’s past and who has it in for her.”  In this movie, Bond is back and it was fun to see him. This movie had great stunts and thrills and the exciting opening seen that we expect from good Bond movies.  In this third Daniel Craig Bond movie, they have gone back to the basics with lots of action, sexy girls and strong villains.

The Man with the Iron Fists (2012)

“On the hunt for a fabled treasure of gold, a band of warriors, assassins, and a rogue British soldier descend upon a village in feudalChina, where a humble blacksmith looks to defend himself and his fellow villagers.”  This was Quentin Tarantino style movie.  I knew Lucy Liu was in it but I did not realize Russell Crowe played a great character in it too. I also did not know it was directed by rapper RZA and he played the iron fisted blacksmith. It was action packed, extra bloody and sexy with an unexpected soundtrack during the fight scenes!  If you are Quentin Tarantino fan, this is a must see movie.

Dexter (Season 7, Episode 6) “Do the Wrong Thing”

In this episode, Debra befriends a local crime writer who claims to have incriminating info on Hannah McKay; Quinn receives a strange cash offer which he doesnt accept. Batista contemplates a business opportunity, while LaGuerta hopes to dredge up new evidence in the Bay Harbor Butcher case.  Also, in this episode Dexter is ready to kill Hanna, the serial killer (played by the beautiful Yvonne Strahovski from the Chuck TV series) and instead of driving the knife in her chest, he cuts the tape holding her naked body to the table and then makes passionate love to her on the killing table.)  I am so happy that Dexter has another girlfriend.

Person of Interest (Season 2, Episode 3) “Masquerade”

From Huggo on IMBD:  “Finch’s recent abduction and captivity by Root has affected his psyche, which may or may not be helped by adjusting to life with his new roommate. Despite Finch’s problems, the machine still dispenses numbers, the latest being for twenty-one year old Sofia Campos, the daughter of Brazilian diplomat and aspiring Brazilian presidential candidate, Hector Campos. FollowingSofiamay be Reese’s biggest challenge to date, as she is a smart but spoiled young woman with a mind of her own who dislikes the overly protected life of a diplomat and potential presidential candidate’s daughter. She would rather go shopping on her own, or clubbing or hanging out with her friends, most specifically her best girlfriend Gabi, and her American boyfriend, Jack Hughes, of whose existence her protective father is unaware. Reese figures the best way to stay close toSofiais to get a job as her bodyguard. AsSofiatries to lose Reese at every turn, she may inadvertently set herself up to that unknown threat, which may come from the people she least expects. Meanwhile, Carter and Fusco continue their investigation into Alicia Corwin’s death. In doing so, Carter runs into an old nemesis.”  This series is worth watching and always entertaining.  The special relationship between Reese and Finch gives a human touch to the stories.

Dexter (Season 7, Episode 5) “Swim Deep”

In this recap by Ella James on Philly Buzz, “‘Swim Deep,’ the fifth episode of season 7 of Dexter, is one of the fastest episodes of the season, and the hardest to watch if you’re in favor of Dexter.  Lt. LaGuerta is starting to close in on her search for truth about the Bay Harbor Butcher. She’s getting so warm that Deb offers to help and finds herself saving Dexter when she and LaGuerta visit the son of one of Dexter’s victims and Deb hides a photo with Dexter in it!  Dexter visits his boat and realizes someone’s been killed there! After analysis, he realizes it was Louis and figures out that the Ukranian mob is now after him. He and Isaak play a dance of who can outsmart who. Dex comes home and realizes Isaak’s in his place so he leaves a fake voicemail sending Isaak to a restaurant and then calls Isaak in this safe spot for a game on! Dexter realizes Isaak is after revenge and he ends up keeping Deb safe in a hotel.  While at a dig site looking for more ofWayne’s victims, Dex realizes Hannah isn’t as innocent as she is playing. He stays quiet. Why? Will there be a romance here?  As Dexter leaves the dig site, he notices Isaak following him. Acting quickly, Dexter leads Isaak into a bar full of Ukranian enemies! Later, Miami Metro is called to the bar but Isaak’s body is not one of the victims. Isaak ends up in jail for murder and Dexter pays him a visit to find out this isn’t over.”

Also in this episode Deb steals, from evidence, an incriminating picture of Dexter at a wedding reception before one of his kills. She basically saved Dexter from getting caught.  She then tells Dexter that she knows he will not stop killing and now she will not try to stop him as long as he does not interfere with active criminal cases. Finally Dexter is free to kill again.
