G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013)

In this Jon Chu directed movie, the G.I. Joes are not only fighting their mortal enemy Cobra; they are forced to contend with threats from within the government that jeopardize their very existence. This movie was much better than the first G.I. movie.  Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) did a great job playing Roadblock with Bruce Willis playing the original G.I. Joe, General Joe Colton. This movie was surprisingly entertaining with amazing action scenes. The fighting sequences on the mountain cliffs were extra spectacular.  This movie is worth seeing if you are an action fan and a young boy at heart. This movie will spawn a new line of toy for kids especially since it was associated with the toy company, Hasbro.

Spring Breakers (2013)

According to Muse Productions, Spring Breakers is about:  “Brit, Candy, Cotty, and Faith have been best friends since grade school. They live together in a boring college dorm and are hungry for adventure. All they have to do is save enough money for spring break to get their shot at having some real fun. A serendipitous encounter with rapper “Alien” promises to provide the girls with all the thrill and excitement they could hope for. With the encouragement of their new friend, it soon becomes unclear how far the girls are willing to go to experience a spring break they will never forget.”  Well, I will say that the girls go very far when they get involved with robberies, drugs, and murders. James Franco did a great job playing the drug dealing, gun toting rapper.  The good news is that the girls learned a lot about life and there is a surprisingly good, happy ending.

Oz the Great and Powerful (2013)

Per Walt Disney Studios; “Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz. At first he thinks he’s hit the jackpot-fame and fortune are his for the taking. That all changes, however, when he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz), and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity-and even a bit of wizardry-Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.”  This was a very entertaining prequel to Wizard of Oz that James Franco portrayed the Wizard very well. The movie has elements from the book series and the original Movie.
